I love watching films through you because I love horror but I’m also easily scared, and you always make it light-hearted and creepy at the same time

  • Something that drives me nuts about this cult is that they don't internalize this little question: Do they really want to see these realities? What if they encounter something in there that they don't particularly want to see? What if they encounter something even worse than EM? No one said that they'd be going to nice realties, just that they'd see ALL realities. That doesn't sound all peaches and cream to me.

  • The issue with this entire concept, is the Subconsious. This is what stupid people think is 'Smart'. Oh you can just 'Think anything up', if you believe hard enough. They are too stupid to Realise the Subcoucious exists. If 'Thinking and Believing makes it happen', then your Subcouncious would literally rip all of reality apart. Even the movie itself has massive plotholes. Namely, if all thoughts can be made real, why can't HIS thoughts be real? There is also that 'God'. If he is a God thought up, then when people forget him, shouldn't he stop existing. And when people find information, a new god appear from the new thoughts? See the issue? There are too many plotholes, for anyone who actually sits down and thinks about it. It's why it's such a concept is so obscure and never seen. Cause there is so much stupidity in it, people don't give it the time of day. The fact they made a movie about it, and STILL fuck it up, shows just how stupid the concept is.

Luckily, I’m desensitized so it doesn’t matter, but damn. Well done. I’m very disappointed in you all. You all seem to judge movies like Jeremy Scott from Cinema sins.

  • There is no James... Everything is a manifestation... Think "Inception", layer within layer of thought/belief. Everything that James experiences or thinks he experiences is a complete manipulation of reality via thought of the Pontifex. His materiality is also a manifestation; there are no real people or real interactions in the entire film past the prologue. James is an ethereal manifestation grappling with the existential notion of his artificial creation; mind pork indeed. They will never need to find/create another vessel. James will exist eternally as long as they believe he exists, and in perpetuity he will believe he exists... this whole flick can be an allegory for contemporary religion. there are some cryptic artifacts like the bible... however, what binds all believers is purely a manifestation of the mind. everyone taps into a signal, yet imperfectly. The empty man idea/concept/philosophy seems a perfect version of that signal, pure connection without the taint of individualized interpretation. It is only possible, over time, with the group focusing to create their own transmitter. They werent given a Jesus, moment upon moment they are manifesting a Jesus (James).

  • While the movie was aesthetically pleasing , quite beautiful, I didn't like the story. Firstly , I did actually like that they addressed this in the story, the chanters, or disciples of the EM flat out tell the audience and the protagonist what is happening. It made the movie easier to watch. Their " chant" about nothing making sense and everything being beyond words is more than just a prayer ,it's actually what you're seeing. For example, if the protagonist had decided to say something about an evil spirit from another universe and explained it well it wouldn't have mattered because the only way to actually show it would be by bringing the EM and if that happens then the person he explains it to will die. And if you combined this with the fact the EM makes people kill themselves, you see what I'm getting at. But I also think it's the writers telling the audience to not think about it too much. Because it really is nonsense. The idea is of you use some device to make a specific sound, while simultaneously concentrating on the EM , the EM will show up and kill you. So, why did the EM kill the people in the beginning? Even if you want to make the argument that the protagonist is in some kind of time loop thing, that doesn't explain why the others died. The girl in the house at the beginning wasn't the one who called the EM. But she used the flute, you might say, that isn't enough, you have to purposely use the flute with the intention of calling the EM. And what's more , why did the others die? The only reason the group of teenagers dies is because they all used the sound to summon the EM. So why did the entire group of hikers die? Well the protagonist said they would , remember? Then why didn't anybody else die? He's in a hospital, he was transferred there over many years, there would literally be hundreds of people dying left and right if that's all it took. Also, even if the protagonist is some kind of weird thought experiment come to life and the cult could wield him as they see fit, the EM is another entity entirely. Much older than them all, so why isn't he killing the cult? They all used the sound to summon him, why aren't they all dead? Also, if there is some kind dark messiah for the EM and the last one died like 500 years ago, and he or she is the only one who can harness the EM and " transmit" , how did the EM do anything before the most recent Transmitter? How has there been a cult this entire time? It's not just some kind of religion or backwards philosophy , It's the EM using the transmitter to " send out signals " . So without a transmitter, why does the EM have a cult? You could make the argument lots of religions have prophets or messiahs that died years ago and people still worship. True , BUT that's not what we're seeing, this thing literally acts like some kind of radio demon controlling things, making people kill themselves, it NEEDS a transmitter. Again without one, why does it have it a cult? And going back to how it doesn't kill the cult members, why does it have a cult anyway, why doesn't it kill them all? It is a cool movie, dark and beautiful, but it makes no sense. They even threw that whole scene in there telling the audience it doesn't make sense. If you want to just see some scary stuff that's created in a cool way I recommend the movie , but don't watch it expecting a story or anything to make sense.

It is a bit messy and convoluted and overlong, but man it is so thoroughly enjoyable and ambitious. I actually really liked the fact that the title only drops 25 minutes into the movie, I found it really bold and I think having a drawn out intro like that was interesting and if it was super short it would have felt pretty typical to me.
